Warren Gatland Names Two Men He’s Considering For Lions 2021 Captaincy

Tour captain.

Warren Gatland was today officially named as head coach of the British and Irish Lions for their upcoming tour of South Africa in 2021.

It will be Gatland’s third successive tour as Lions head coach have led them to a series victory in 2013 against Australia, before defeating the All Blacks back in 2017 on the way to a drawn series.

For both of those tours Sam Warburton was named as Lions tour captain by Gatland but who does he have in mind for 2021? Warburton has since retired so that’s him out, but another Welshman is in the frame with Gatland naming Alun Wyn Jones and Owen Farrell today as two potential candidates to lead them in South Africa.

“It’s got to be someone who has the respect of everyone in the squad. Ideally you want someone to be coming from a successful team. Alun Wyn Jones comes to mind at the moment, Owen Farrell too.” Gatland said.

“Potentially those two are players that you’d talk about. But two years is a long time and you never know what’s going to happen in the game.”

Who do you think would be a good choice to lead the Lions in 2021?
