Six Players To Watch At This Year’s Six Nations
Ones to watch.
The Six Nations gets underway this weekend with some mouth-watering clashes. Wales and Scotland kick things off on Saturday, followed by a huge clash between France and Ireland in Paris.
Sunday then sees Italy and England lock horns for the first time since “ruckgate”, in what promises to be an entertaining affair.
Here are six players to watch ahead of round one.
Jordan Larmour (Ireland)
The Leinster sensation has been fast-tracked into the Irish set-up after a string of impressive performances in the PRO14 and the Champions Cup. Expect to see him get a spot on the bench at least against Italy. It’s over to him from there to impress and gain a spot in the squad for the latter rounds.
James Davies (Wales)
The Scarlets back-row has finally been called-up to the Welsh national side. The 27-year-old brother of centre Jonathan, has arguably been the best uncapped forward in the PRO14 over the last few seasons. Should get his chance given the injuries in the Gatland’s back-row currently.
Seb Negri (Italy)
Italy have been using Hartpury college in Gloucestershire as a real hunting ground of late with both Negri and Jake Polledri earning call-ups. Negri is a strong player built like a blindside but has real pace and athleticism.
Kevin Gourdon (France)
The La Rochelle flanker was one of the stars of last year’s competition and has been in fine form once again this year. Phenomenal work-rate, no doubt he’ll cause Ireland problems on the opening day.
Zach Mercer (England)
The Bath youngster has finally qualified from his apprentice status, and is in line to be thrown straight in against Italy due to a number of injuries in the England back-row. A special talent, that will do doubt impress if given his chance.
Stuart Hogg (Scotland)
Player of the tournament for the last two consecutive years, Hogg always seems to find form at this time of year. Recently back from injury, but has been motoring for the last few weeks. Always a threat and can create something from nothing.
