Rieko Ioane Doesn’t See His Long-Term All Blacks Future On The Wing
Midfield aspirations.
In less than 12 months All Black Rieko Ioane has become one rugby’s deadliest finishers, and is arguably the best winger in the world right now.
The World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year burst onto the international scene with some incredible performances agains the Lions this summer for both the Blues and the All Blacks.
But it seems he doesn’t fancy himself as a winger going forward, with the 20-year-old eyeing up a positional switch. Ioane is eyeing up the All Blacks’ 13 jersey.
“Thirteen’s probably the long-term goal but for now, if I play 11, I play 11 and I’m pretty comfortable playing there,” Ioane told NZ Newswire.
“I’ll probably start to pick up playing centre a bit next year but for now I’m just happy to get on the field where I can.”
Ioane started in the centre 7 times for the Blues during the 2017 Super Rugby season, but has since played 11 times on the wing for the All Blacks, scoring an impressive 10 tries.
Where do you think Ioane should play going forward? Is he a better winger or centre?
