Rassie Erasmus & Jacques Nienaber To Take Charge Of Springboks
That didn’t take long.
Allister Coetzee’s miserable run as Springboks coach is set to come to an abrupt end, after a meeting with new South African Rugby Union (SARU) director of rugby Rassie Erasmus.
The former Munster boss recently took up the newly-formed role with the SARU after an 18-month spell with the Irish province that saw him guide them to a PRO14 final and a Champions Cup semi-final.
Erasmus brought Jacques Nienaber with him, and it appears the pair will be taking full control of the Springboks, at least on a temporary basis, according to a report by TimesLive in South Africa.
Sources have confirmed Coetzee met with Erasmus on Wednesday and will be removed from his post in due course once all the labour law hurdles have been cleared.
An interim coaching setup‚ initially headed by Erasmus‚ will handle the Springboks’ planning in the New Year. It’s understood South Africa don’t have funds available for an overseas coach, so don’t be surprised if Erasmus and Nienaber take over on a full-time basis.
