Ranking: The Top 50 Rugby Clubs In The World

Where does your club rank?

We’re big fans of the lads over at Rugby Vision and some of their interesting predictions and rankings list, but this latest piece of work may be our favourite yet.

Looking back on 2017 and all the club competitions across both sides of the world, they’ve managed to put together a rankings list featuring the top 50 clubs in the world, well 58 to be exact.

Interestingly just one club from the northern hemisphere makes the top 5, and it’s not Saracens. Their poor run of form towards the end of 2017 has had a detrimental effect on their ranking as barely make the top 10 in ninth.

Leinster are the northern side who make the top 5 in third position, while New Zealand big guns the Hurricanes and the Crusaders are first and second respectively.

The likes of Munster and Exeter also make the top 10, while Glasgow’s impressive PRO14 form is enough for them to be ranked as the sixth best club in the world. Have a look at the full list below.

Designed by a MIT economist, Rugby Vision (RV) is a suite of statistical models that predicts outcomes for major rugby competitions. For each game, RV calculates the expected score margin and the probability of each team winning. RV also calculates the probability of each team obtaining various milestones in a tournament.
