Harlequins playmaker Marcus Smith has become the highest paid teenager in world rugby after signing his first professional contract, according to a report in The Times.

The 18-year-old sensation, who’s become a regular for Quins this season, will see out the rest of this season on an academy contract worth less than £30,000 a year.

His new contract, that will see him remain at the Stoop through to the summer of 2022, is expected to start at a whopping £230,000 a year before bonuses.

A £200,000 raise? Not bad at all for the youngster. Money well spent no doubt given his potential.
