That’s a lot of cash.

French giants Montpellier, backed by billionaire Mohed Altrad, have offered CJ Stander a staggering €840,000-a-year contract to move to France, according to reports in The Irish Examiner this morning.

The deal is said to be a three-year one, which would mean Stander would stand earn over €2.5 million by making the move to the Top 14, dwarfing any offer the IRFU would be able to make.

We would however, take this news with a pinch of salt, as Montpellier have distanced themselves in the past from a move and Vern Cotter, who is the current Montpellier boss, has a good relationship with Joe Schmidt.

The pair worked together with each other at Clermont, and it would be strange to see the former Scotland boss pull a fast one on Schmidt. That being said, rugby is becoming a funny old business, so you just never know.

Stander reportedly wants to stay in Ireland, depending on the deal that is offered. Hopefully an agreement can be reached as he would be a huge loss to both Munster and Ireland.
