Eddie Jones Says His England Team Are Severely Lacking In One Critical Area
Huge changes needed.
England head coach Eddie Jones says his side are nowhere near fit enough to win the 2019 Rugby World Cup with huge changes needed if they are to succeed.
Jones says his players they must undergo huge changes to their training methods over the next two years in order to get to up to the standard of fitness he believes will be needed in order to succeed in rugby’s showpiece event.
The Australian says he has some great plans in place to make sure they achieve their goal.
“They’re not fit enough to win the World Cup, and we want to win the World Cup,” Jones told The Telegraph.
“You don’t have to be fit enough now to win the World Cup, you have to be fit enough to win the World Cup at 19:59 on November 2, 2019 (the date of the final). We’ve got some great plans in place to fix that.”
Jones said England had brought in several outside experts to shake-up training sessions and help forwards adapt to the changing demands of the game.
“We’re going to have a presentation about where we see the changes in the game going,” he added.
“And what then are the implications for the players, because they’re players that have been in the game for 10 years and they’ve done the same thing.”
“And they’ve got to change the way they train now. With two years to go until the World Cup, now is the time to change things.'”
