Crusaders Outhalf Comments On Ronan O’Gara Taking Up Coaching Role

Learning from the master.

Ronan O’Gara could be set to swap Paris for Christchurch, with the Irish Examiner reporting that he’s set to leave Racing 92, and take up a role with Super Rugby champions the Crusaders.

The former Munster and Ireland playmaker is set to become assistant head coach to Scott Roberston next year, replacing the outgoing Leon McDonald who has announced that he is stepping back from the Crusaders to return to Tasman and be closer to his family.

Crusaders playmaker Richie Mo’unga is one of the most promising 10’s in New Zealand rugby at the moment, and has welcomed the opportunity to work with one of the very best 10’s the game has ever seen in O’Gara.

“He was one of the best in the world when he was around. If the rumours are true it would be pretty cool,” Mo’unga told the NZ Herald in Paris.
“He would be very knowledgeable from a 10’s perspective. Leon was a huge help for me this year. He didn’t play 10 but he was an outside specialist. When he announced he wasn’t coming back I was a bit gutted but I’m excited for whoever gets the opportunity and if it’s him it would be awesome.
“I’ve never met him or anything but it would be cool.”
