Alex Cuthbert Set To Leave Cardiff Blues
On the move.
Wales winger Alex Cuthbert will leave Cardiff Blues at the end of the season when his current contract expires. The Lions 2013 tourist will not be eligible for Wales selection if he leaves the country, having only played 47 times for his country, 13 short of the 60 required.
He most recently played for Warren Gatland’s side against Georgia in November, and has just returned to the Blues starting line-up, having picked up a calf injury in that game.
Still only 27-years-old, Cuthbert has been criticised heavily in recent years for his international form. The winger has bagged 16 tries in 47 internationals, but has been unable to recreate the kind of form that saw him score in the Lions’ 1st Test win over the Wallabies back in 2013.
The emergence of wing Owen Lane and fullback Rhun Williams means the Blues are not in the market for a back-three player to replace Cuthbert.
